Blizzard Beach Water Park

From LoveToKnow Themeparks

Blizzard Beach Water Park is one of the two water parks located in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It is located on Disney property, near the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and other Disney attractions. Blizzard Beach is home to Summit Plummet, one of the tallest water slides in the United States.

Blizzard Beach Water Park Is Unique

The concept behind Blizzard Beach is what makes this park stand out from other water parks located in the Orlando region. The story behind the park begins when a freak snowstorm covers Florida. Quickly, a ski resort appeared, feature slalom courses, iceberg walkways and toboggan slides. However, the story continues, just as quickly as the ski resort popped up, the weather changed again, warming back up. A smart thinking alligator, called Ice Gator slid down the ski jump into a pool of water created by the melting snow. While the story behind Blizzard Beach is fairytale, it is the concept for this unique park.

Blizzard Beach Attractions

Several notable attractions appear at this ski resort style water park. Visitors will find it to be a traditional, themed Disney park, with Disney characters and products available throughout.

  • Chair Lift: The Chair Lift looks like a ski lift. It takes visitors to the top of Mount Gushmore. At the top of Mount Gushmore, individuals gain access to the Teamboat Springs, Summit Plummet and Slush Gusher attractions.
  • Cross Country Creek: In lazy river style, Cross Country Creek takes visitors around a continuously flowing stream that circles the park. Inner tubes are available to guests to move along the waterway.
  • Downhill Double Dipper: The Downhill Double Dipper is a waterslide race for older children and adults. It features a pair of 50 foot high, 230 feet long racing slides that allow riders to plush into the waiting pool. Speeds can top up to 25 miles per hour.
  • Melt Away Bay: Another Blizzard Beach attraction is Melt Away Bay. This is a one-acre wave pool. It is located at the base of Mouth Gushmore.
  • Ski Patrol Training Camp: This fun activity allows kids too young for some of the larger attractions but too big for the kiddie area to play in the water. There is a zip line running through the area, which allows children to grab a T bar to zip into the waiting water.
  • Tike's Peak: For children who are under 48 inches tall, Tike's Peak is a one-stop destination. A snow castle fountain and smaller slides are available here.

Other attractions include Runoff Rapids, Slush Gusher, Snow Stormers, Summit Plummet, Teamboat Springs and Toboggan Racers. All are available to visitors to the park.
