Cedar Point Halloweekends

As the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, many amusement parks add haunted houses and other scary attractions to their lineup of thrilling rides and roller coasters, and Cedar Point Halloweekends are some of the most highly anticipated Halloween theme park events in the world.

Are you ready for frightening fun?

About Cedar Point

Cedar Point is a 364 acre amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. Home to more than 15 roller coasters and more than 50 rides, the park is renowned for its collection of thrills and attractions for all ages. Consistently voted one of the best amusement parks in the world by leading roller coaster enthusiast groups, industry organizations, and travel professionals, Cedar Point is a top theme park destination all summer long. During the fall, however, the park is transformed from a summer playground into a masterfully spooky netherworld where monsters roam the midways day and night.

Halloweekends History

The first Halloweekends took place at the end of the 1997 season with just a few haunted houses and minimal Halloween decorations. Over the years, the seasonal celebration has grown to much greater proportions and now spooktacular delights can be found throughout the park with different fear factors suitable for all ages and dispositions. The event has become so popular, in fact, that attendance during Halloweekends often rivals the busiest summer days and the number of weekends has been expanded to accommodate the demand. For weeks, the entire park is decorated with pumpkins, skeletons, cobwebs, hay bales, and other touches that bring the Halloween spirit to life.

Scary Attractions during Cedar Point Halloweekends

While Cedar Point’s outstanding roller coasters and other thrill rides are scary for some riders all season long, the frightening festivities of Halloweekends are only available for a limited time. Attractions can vary from year to year as the park expands and improves on popular haunts, but a sampling of favorite attractions includes:

  • Club Blood: This chilling dance club is so great some guests may never leave.
  • Undertaker U.: Since 2001 this mortuary science haunted house has been one of the park’s most popular attractions.
Some rides are too scary!
  • Pharaoh’s Secret: Located in the same building as the Disaster Transport roller coaster, this haunted tomb conceals a frightening pharaoh curse.
  • Magical House on Boo Hill: Located near the Blue Streak, this family-friendly haunted house has several themed rooms to excite and delight younger guests.
  • Terror Island: Pirates whose ships sank under the most mysterious of circumstances come back to dwell on this hidden island beneath Millennium Force.
  • Cornstalkers: This haunted cornfield on the Frontier Trail is filled with more than autumn vegetables.
  • Fright Zone: Only the bravest dare venture along this thickly fogged path where Screamsters lurk.
  • Fear Faire: This medieval market near the front of the park is filled with frights of all types.
  • Carnevil: This circus is more fearful than fun as the clowns and sideshow freaks show their terrifying side.
  • Planet Spooky: A delightful children’s area, the season decorations here will put all younger guests in a fun Halloween spirit.

A Note on Fear

It should be noted that the scary areas of the park are clearly marked with intensity ratings and warnings for guests who prefer more fun than fear. More intense attractions are not recommended for young guests, though less scary attractions are available.

Shows

In addition to the haunted attractions, Cedar Point offers a range of seasonal entertainment especially suited to Halloweekends. Spooky music plays continuously, while periodic shows such as monster parties and spooky sing-a-longs are fun options for everyone. The most popular show is the Monster Midway Invasion Celebration Parade, which features elaborately themed floats, family-friendly monsters, costumed Peanuts characters, dancing, and other fun sights as it winds along the park’s midways every Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.

The park’s water rides, Snake River Falls and Thunder Canyon, as well as the Paddlewheel Excursions, are closed for the season and do not operate during Halloweekends.
