Appeal of Indoor Water Parks

Indoor water parks are a superb choice for a unique winter theme park getaway when most amusement parks are closed and silent. Because indoor water parks are protected from the elements and have superior climate control, however, rain, snow, sleet, and ice have no impact on the aquatastic fun.

Most indoor water parks are designed as resort hotels and offer features the whole family can enjoy. From kiddie and toddler pools to the latest in water coaster and surfing simulator technology, guests can indulge in splash after splash without ever leaving the resort or braving the unpredictable elements outside. Furthermore, many resorts offer additional facilities such as fitness centers, spas, arcades, and other attractions to complete the getaway experience. Indiana’s selection of indoor water parks is no different, with a range of parks offering different attractions for visitors to enjoy.

Locations of Indiana Indoor Water Parks

There are three popular indoor water parks in Indiana: Caribbean Cove, Splash Universe, and the Indy Island Aquatic Center.

Caribbean Cove

Caribbean Cove is located at the Holiday Inn Select North at the Pyramids in northern Indianapolis. This tropically themed park features balmy temperatures, heated water, and a variety of attractions to suit all ages. Popular features include a lazy river, two whirlpool spas, multiple twisting slides, a sports activity pool with a multi-hoop island, and an interactive shipwrecked boat featuring dozens of geysers, sprays, and a tremendous splash tipping bucket poised overhead. Guests who prefer to stay a bit drier can enjoy the prize redemption arcade center and the themed refreshment stands.

Splash Universe

Splash Universe is located in Shipshewana and features a range of different ticket options so guests can cater their visit to their individual schedules and budgets. Resident and spectator-only discount rates are available, as well as both full and half-day passes for guests to enjoy the kiddie pool, hot tub, leisure river, interactive play fort, and slides of different sizes and intensities. A large family game arcade is also available.

Indy Island Aquatic Center

The Indy Island Aquatic Center is a municipal indoor water park in Indianapolis. Because it is not attached to a hotel, the rates are much less expensive – all tickets are $5 or less, with several types of discounts available. Part of the city’s parks and recreation department, the Aquatic Center is adjacent to other outdoor park facilities as well. The indoor water park features a zero depth entry leisure pool for youngsters, an adults-only whirlpool, a small children’s water play house, a large curving slide, and a lap swimming pool along with plenty of lounging space for a relaxing afternoon of watery fun.

Outdoor Water Parks in Indiana

While Indiana may be home to only three indoor water parks at the moment, the state also boasts several seasonal outdoor water parks that offer an even wider range of thrilling water attractions. Splashin’ Safari water park is a 22-acre complex that is part of the Holiday World theme park in Santa Claus, Indiana, and the Splash Down Dunes water park is located in Porter. The Deep River Waterpark in Crown Point is open throughout the year, but with a twist – guests cannot use the waterslides in the winter, but part of the park is converted into an outdoor ice rink for seasonal ice skating.

In addition to these and other outdoor water parks, many of Indiana’s cities offer indoor and outdoor municipal pools that may feature small water slides, play fountains, and other water park-style features. Furthermore, additional Indiana indoor water parks are planned, with the largest project under development as part of an entertainment complex in Fishers.

Indiana indoor water parks offer everyone a fun taste of summer no matter what the outdoor weather may be. Combined with the state’s numerous outdoor seasonal water parks, there is always another place to splash in this Midwestern state.
