About Raging Bull

Raging Bull has a unique legend in the park’s folklore: supposedly, the Southwest Territory (the section of the park where the coaster is located) was terrorized by a ferocious bull that eventually forced the region’s citizens to flee, abandoning their homes to the beast’s rampage. The roller coaster station is built in the abandoned mission but the vicious bull has never been conquered, though millions of riders have tried since the coaster opened in 1999 by braving its dramatic track and imposing drop. Today, thousands of guests each day “run with the bull,” making Raging Bull one of the park’s most popular attractions.

The Ride Experience

Raging Bull is a steel coaster manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, a world-renowned designer for thrilling and innovative roller coasters. The coaster trains seat riders four across and hydraulic T-bar restraints with grab bars firmly secure riders while keeping an open, airy design that enhances the ride’s speed and power. The track’s bright red and orange color scheme emphasizes its ferocity and ties into the legend – they are the very colors that enrage fighting bulls. The smooth, swooping track includes high overbanked turns, an underground dive, and multiple weaves around supports and structure for a disorienting, adrenaline-inducing path not for the faint of heart.

  • Maximum Height: 202 feet
  • Longest Drop: 208 feet

Other Six Flags Great America Coasters

If Raging Bull may be too intimidating for park guests, there are eleven other coasters and dozens of thrill rides to choose from for a less intense but still exciting visit. Other popular coasters include:

  • Batman the Ride: This inverted coaster first opened in 1992 and its five inversions soar above the park at 50 miles per hour.
  • Iron Wolf: The unique design of this stand-up coaster keeps guests on their toes as they challenge its two inversions and nearly vertical drop.
  • Ragin’ Cajun: This spinning wild mouse coaster that opened in 2004 is crazy fun for riders willing to brave its 2.5 Gs of lateral force.
  • Superman: Ultimate Flight: Opened in 2003, this steel coaster features a 100 foot drop and two dizzying inversions during its 3 minute duration.
  • Vertical Velocity: This linear-induction powered coaster reaches 70 miles per hour and stuns guests with a heart-pounding holding brake.

Raging Bull Roller Coaster Riding Tips

Tame the Bull!
Tame the Bull!

As the world’s first hyper-twister coaster – named for its impressive height and convoluted track layout – Raging Bull is not for everyone. Guests must be at least 54 inches tall in order to ride, and guests with heart, back, or neck problems or guests who may be pregnant should not ride. A much publicized accident in 2003 involved the death of an 11-year-old girl after she rode Raging Bull; the cause of death was initially speculated to be asphyxiation from choking on a piece of gum, but she was later determined to have had a heart condition, which illustrates the importance of riders understanding the adrenaline risks of attempting such a ferocious roller coaster.

Because Raging Bull is one of the park’s most popular coasters, the wait can be several hours long during peak hours each summer. Fortunately, Flash Pass is available for the coaster and can allow riders to bypass the lengthy line if they are willing to pay the extra charges for the privilege.

Loose articles – hats, cameras, cell phones, sunglasses, keys, wallets, etc. – should be firmly secured before riding Raging Bull, or else they should be left in a locker or with a non-rider to ensure they are not lost during the ride.

The Raging Bull roller coaster is a terrifying and delightful ride at Six Flags Great America and one that is sure to continue encouraging riders to test the limits of their fear for many years to come. Ole!
