Shoot the Rapids at Cedar Point
From LoveToKnow Themeparks
Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio is well known for its amazing rides and wide variety of attractions, and that tradition continues with Shoot the Rapids at Cedar Point, a new water ride for the 2010 season.
About Shoot the Rapids at Cedar Point
Cedar Point’s Frontier Trail, along the park’s northwestern border, is home to the new Shoot the Rapids, a family flume water coaster with a crazy western theme. Riders will board the 10-passenger boats from the Crystal Rock Bottling Company, where the products of the illegal moonshine still from the families living along the lagoon are bottled. The feud between those families has been a highlight of the Paddlewheel Excursions riverboat ride for generations, and now riders on Shoot the Rapids will brave the ire of the moonshiners.
The ride’s roughly figure-8 course will take it across the lagoon and onto Millennium Island, where the Millennium Force roller coaster undergoes a complicated turn to reverse its course. During the 2,100 foot ride, riders will glide through thick forests and rock-studded canyons, all incorporating special effects, water rapids, and other adventurous tricks.

Riding Tips
Passengers should be aware that Shoot-the-Rapids will use an over-the-shoulder harness restraint that may not be able to accommodate passengers with broad shoulders or exceptional girth. A test seat may be available at the ride’s entrance, or riders can ask to try a seat before waiting in line.
Whenever a new ride opens, long lines are inevitable. Be sure to take advantage of nearby restroom facilities along the Frontier Trail or in Frontier Town before entering the line. Snacks and drinks may be brought into the line, but will not be permitted on the ride. Guests are also encouraged to leave all loose, valuable, or breakable items such as cell phones, keys, cameras, and sunglasses in a locker or with a non-rider for safety. Cedar Point is not responsible if items are lost or damaged on the ride. Shoot the Rapids is a water ride, and riders and their belongings may get wet, so take proper precautions before boarding the ride.
Other Cedar Point Water Rides
Shoot the Rapids replaces White Water Landing, a similar but less intense canoe-style water flume ride that the park operated from 1982 through 2005, but it carries on the park’s tradition of fine water rides that began with the first Shoot-the-Rapids ride that opened in the 1930s, and another that operated in Frontier Town in the 1960s and 1970s. If the thrills of the modern Shoot the Rapids aren’t quite right for you, however, the park offers other thrilling water rides to enjoy.
- Thunder Canyon: This whitewater rafting ride takes riders through a 1,600 foot long twisty, deep canyon among waterfalls and geysers. Since it opened in 1986, more than 28 million riders have been soaked on Thunder Canyon.
- Snake River Falls: This figure 8 flume ride towers 82 feet tall and brings riders to a thundering splashdown at speeds higher than 40 miles per hour, producing a 1,600 square foot wave. Built in 1993, Snake River Falls is still a favorite ride at the base of the Frontier Trail.
- Soak City: If you prefer water slides to water rides, you won’t want to miss Soak City, Cedar Point’s 18 acre water park. With a wide range of slides, a lazy river, the active Renegade River, a wave pool, swim up bar, and the Splash Zone water fortress, Soak City has been a family favorite since it opened in 1988. Note: Extra admission fees are required for Soak City.
In addition to these extreme water rides, younger guests can also enjoy aquatastic attractions at Cedar Point with Sir Rub-a-Dub’s Tubs in Kiddie Kingdom on the Main Midway and the Bumper Boats ride near the Gemini roller coaster.
Shoot the Rapids at Cedar Point is sure to be yet another amazing water ride at this amazing theme park. If you want to cool off on a hot summer day, there’s no better way than to visit Cedar Point!
